Biting Stories

The Contest

Designed for students in Secondary III, IV and V, this writing contest is about horror stories or magical worlds where vampires mingle with werewolves, ghosts or angels – fantasy and the supernatural.

In order to pass on the desire for reading and writing to the next generation, Blue Metropolis invites young people aged 14 to 16 from Anglophone communities in Canada to tell us a story of fiction or fantasy set in their community.

Download the contest instruction guide and watch videos of fantasy author Caryl Cudde Mullin sharing writing tips and her experience.

A jury willl select the five finalist texts that will be published on the Blue Metropolis website. The public will then be invited to vote for the best text, the Grand Prize Winner. In addition, the jury will choose 20 honourable mentions that will be published by Blue Metropolis in a digital book, to be launched at the Festival.

Participants and the general public will be invited to attend an event at the 14th Blue Metropolis Literary Festival with a famous writer of fantasy who will present the award to the winner of the online vote.

Congratulations to the winner of this first edition of the Biting Stories writing contest!

Nabil Shah received a cheque of $1000 from author Alyxandra Harvey at the 14th Blue Metropolis Festival.

His story, about a young man obsessed with comic books, has a surprise ending.
